"We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave"!
The dog days of summer are here! It's time to get outside and
enjoy the sunshine!
Along with the sunshine comes the heat and humidity. These
factors can have serious effects on us and our pets. Keeping to
shady areas and having plenty of cool fresh water on hand can help
lessen the chances of heatstroke from occurring. Never ever leave
your pet in a car, even if the window is cracked.
Many of the items that are stored in the shed/garage can be
extremely harmful. While you are doing yard work, make sure
chemicals are stored out of the reach of pets. Use pet-safe
products in areas where your pets go.
When traveling with your pet, make sure your destinations are
animal-friendly. There are several websites that can help you plan
animal-friendly vacations.
If you
are staying home this summer, there are many things you and your
dog can do outside together. Frisbee tossing, trips to a
dog-friendly beach, a day at the dog park or even going for a ride
in the car, are just a few ideas. The point is to get out
there and have fun together!
Whatever you plan, remember to outfit your dog with a collar, ID
tag (and/or microchip) that includes your name, addresses and
telephone number. No matter how careful you are there's the chance
your companion may become lost - an ID tag (and/or microchip)
greatly increases the chance that your pet will be returned home
safely.
